The Chattanooga Fire Academy will conclude its training exercises this morning with the scheduled burn of a donated house on Hixson Pike. The house will be set on fire around 10:00 this morning with the biggest flames dying down around 10:30.
The fire is expected to engulf the house very quickly and plans are in place to allow it to burn to the ground.
Cadets and training staff will be available for interviews throughout the morning.

On Thursday, Rich Gray, a fire fuels expert with the Texas Forest Service, took firefighters up Way Station Trail near Smithville, scene of the devastating Wilderness Ridge Fire of February 2009.

Since early September, 24 individuals have been dedicated to becoming certified volunteer firefighters. The task has not been an easy one, but those who make it through will graduate with their Colorado state Fire Fighter 1 certificate and their Colorado state hazardous materials operations certificate.

It won’t be nearly as big, but a future Valley fire training school in Beacon Falls will have some of the same facilities as those offered here at the Connecticut Fire Academy.
Situated on 16 acres at Bradley International Airport, the academy opened in 1994. For more than 15 years, it has been a hub for training career and volunteer firefighters. Trench Rescue training begins this morning 9/21/2010 at Middletown Fire Headquarters. Part of the technical rescue aspect of our services, this training will last 3 weeks. During this time the Connecticut Fire Academy will be delivering the program through their adjunct instructors. Intructors who are experts in their field including one from FDNY, will deliver this to both firefighters from Middletown and New Haven Fire Departments. Firefighters beat back the inferno using every ounce of training and strength they can muster. It’s yet another day at the Lake Technical Center’s Institute of Public Safety’s burn building.

The CFA is open to persons 18 and older who either work or live in the City of Sierra Vista. The nine-week class will meet one night per week from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M at the SVFD Station #263 classroom, located at 675 Giulio Cesare Ave. There is no cost to participants but class size is limited to twelve (12).

The Los Medanos Fire Academy meets every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6-10 pm, every Saturday from 8am to 6pm, and every other Sunday for approximately 8-10 hours. Tuesdays and Thursdays are usually classroom days and are accompanied by lectures from various instructors, at varying locations. Those days aren’t too rough. It’s the Saturdays and Sundays that have been kicking our asses.
