If you’ve ever wanted to be a firefighter or just learn more about fire safety, here’s your chance.

The Odessa Fire Department will be holding their 2011 Citizen’s Fire Academy starting March 1. The 10-week program will have classes from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every Tuesday, with a graduation dinner on the 11th week.

Some of the activities will include wearing firefighter protective gear, using fire extinguishers, learn now the fire department responds to calls and even be permitted to ride along with the fire department at different fire stations. Participation in the exercises is optional.

Applications for the program can be found at www.odessa-tx.gov or picked up at Central Fire Station Administration 1100 W. Second St. or at city hall 411 West Eight Street. Deadline to submit an application is Feb. 18.

Call Fire Investigator Yolanda Rincon at 257-0521 or Fire Marshall Detra White at 257-0518 for more information.
