Clarksville, TN – Howell Albright, a 35-year veteran of Clarksville Fire Rescue, has been named Deputy Chief of the department.
Fire Chief Mike Roberts and Clarksville Mayor Kim McMillan announced Albright’s appointment to the position at Thursday’s City Council Executive Session.
Albright, 57, is a Clarksville native and the longest serving member of the fire department. He had been Chief of the Training Division for the past 15 years.
“I promise to work diligently to move the department forward,” he told Council members and those in attendance at the meeting.

Some students hit the science books for summer camps, others put on the football pads and helmet to gain skills for the gridiron.

Bailey Crafton and his brother, Logan Dunavent, were serious about Southaven’s Fire Academy for Kids, as the two wore colorful flame-decorated shorts on their third day in the training camp.
The two are among 20 kids taking part in Southaven’s first junior fire academy.
The weeklong academy started Monday, and by Wednesday most of the kids had already decided they want to be firefighters when they grow up.

The Leander fire department offers a seven-week citizen’s fire academy designed to educate and develop residents’ awareness and understanding of the role of the fire department within its community.
The program runs June 29 through Aug. 10 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Leander Fire Administration building at 101 E. Sonny Dr., next to the police administration building.

Four Deer Park residents have heeded the call to protect and serve others in the community by joining the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department.
Cadet Kevin Wolfe, who served as the academy class president, said he volunteered because wants to give back to his community.
“I have been a resident of Deer Park for 34 years and wanted to give back to the community and try something different,” he said.
In his day job, Wolfe works as a crane operator in the offshore industry.

Wildland fire agencies from Arkansas and Oklahoma will sponsor the annual Arkansas River Valley Wildland Fire Academy beginning at Arkansas Tech today.  The two-week Academy is hosted by the Professional Development Institute..

The Crafton Hills College 74th Basic Firefighter Training Academy Graduation Ceremony took place at the Finkelstein Performing Arts Center on Thursday, April 21.
The 24 cadets were honored by Fire Academy Chief Dan Sullivan and guest speaker Chief Paul Lepore of the Redondo Beach Fire Department. Certificates were presented by Chief Lepore, Vice President of Instruction, Cheryl Marshall, Ed.D. and Dean of Career Education and Human Development June Yamamoto.

The William S. Hart Union High School District ROP Fire Academy is holding its next graduation ceremony at Saugus High School from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Midlothian Fire Department has twelve spots available for the upcoming Citizens Fire Academy. The Fire Academy is designed to give civilians the opportunity to learn more about the services provided by their Fire Department while giving them some hands-on experience.
